Ottawa Confederation Line Light Rail Transit

The Confederation Line Light Rail Transit (LRT) project was Ottawa’s largest single infrastructure project since the building of the Rideau Canal. Alltrade completed the installation of all poles, cantilevers, rigid rail, and overhead catenary conductor for the mainline and the maintenance and storage facility Overhead Catenary System (OCS).

Service(s)

Electrical Construction

This was Alltrade’s very first OCS project. Due to our exceptional performance, we were additionally contracted to complete the connector tunnel conduit and lighting installation, communications-based train control (CBTC) signaling and communications/system-wide fibre installation, tunnel ventilation installation and testing, and commissioning support.

Alltrade acquired specialized equipment for the project, including self-propelled overhead line access units, hi-rail bucket trucks, hi-rail boom trucks and a custom built constant tension stringing unit (CTSU), one of only two in North America at the time, for stringing the contact and messenger wires simultaneously at final tension.
