Scotford Solar

The 81 MWDC Scotford solar project will power a top global oil producer’s refinery complex to support the company in achieving its goal of net zero emissions by 2050. Located in Alberta’s industrial heartland, the project is the first large-scale solar installation in the region.

Once operational, the project is expected to contribute approximately $200,000 a year on a levelized basis to the Strathcona County local government and school system, while requiring little to no county services in return. This project required a 4 km distribution pole line to interconnect to the Shell Scotford facility at 25 kV.

At completion, this will be Canada’s largest behind-the-meter solar project. The project output will offset one fifth of the refinery’s energy demands.
